Sarah Palin - Lowering Your Expectations So She Can Win
55Sarah Palin And Her Disappearing Act
Sarah Palin has been missing in action. After some downright embarrassing interviews, the McCain campaign decided that it would be best if she stayed at home caring for her children rather than spouting her lunacy for all Americans to see.
Although one would think this is a shameful move at hiding Palin's credentials (or lack thereof) from the American Public, it is actually a brilliant political tactic being waged by the McCain campaign.

A Page Out of the George W. Bush Playbook
When George Bush was set to debate Al Gore in the 2000 presidential race, most people expected Bush to get cremated. Gore was considered to be a master on topics relating to foreign affairs and even politics in general. George Bush was known for his absurd mis-statements and overly simplistic ramblings.
The Bush Campaign limited the number of "freestyle" interviews that G.W. would appear in. He also limited his exposure to the public so that he would only be seen when he could give carefully crafted responses rather than speaking what was really on his mind. This made many of Bush's detractors ridicule him even further for his inability to speak without preparing a topic.
Because of the high expectations put on Al Gore and the dismissal of George Bush, the results of the debate were actually far different than expected. Bush made no obviously absurd statements and he insisted on overly simplistic language and explanations. This caused many to actually feel that Bush defeated Gore in the debate. It did not matter that he provided no specific knowledge of events, the fact that he could give answers that sounded somewhat educated allowed for many Americans to feel that he was worthy of the White House.

Attempts to Lower Expectations to Make Palin Shine
If you are told that something is going to taste terrible, you may actually be pleasantly surprised if it isn't half bad. But if you are told that something is supposed to be the best experience you have ever had then you will be sorely disappointed if it is just very good but not excellent.
By making us feel like Palin is a goofy hockey mom that belongs in a Disney cartoon, the McCain camp is hoping that Americans will be pleasantly surprised when she recites lines which she has been preparing for the last 4 weeks.
Moreover, because Palin has not made any recent public interviews, she has absolutely no record which can be discussed during the debates. Senator Biden has been in politics for many years so many aspects of his voting record will be scrutinized and memorized by the McCain camp so that Palin can recite them into nice sound bites that catch the ears of unsuspecting Americans.
Make no mistake about it, this is the year 2000 all over again. An incompetent candidate has been hiding from public scrutiny while planning and sharpening her fangs. When the female bulldog actually bites during the debate many will be surprised and see this as a strength. Unfortunately many will not even realize that all this was just a culmination of America's low expectations repeated once again.
